Ira Dubey may not be a popular star but certainly among the talented actresses of B Town and small screen. She was born on 1st August 1984 in New Delhi in a very prestigious family of Ravi Dubey who is the senior vice president (Corporate Communications) in the Tata Group, while her mother Lillete Dubey is an actress.
She has one sibling called Neha who is a psychotherapist based in Bombay and a former actress of B Town and small screen. She did her schooling from The Cathedral & John Connon School from Bombay and later went to St. Xavier’s College for her graduation.
Later she went to Yale University to do her higher studies in Filmmaking and creative field.She is also currently starring in Tennessee Williams ' ,Glass Menagerie, directed by Rajjit Kaput and has played Portia in Vickram Kapadia's production of William Shakespeare's, Merchant of Venice this past year. She is also currently playing Nora in Pushan Kripalani's production of Henrik Ibsen's - A Doll's House opening October 6, 2016 in Mumbai.
Her film credits include Marigold, Dir Willard Caroll (2005), The President is Coming, produced by Rohan Sippy and directed by Kunal Roy Kapoor (2009), Aisha, Directed by Rajshree Ojha (2010). More recently she has been featured in Graveyard Shift, an independent film, written and directed by Ahmed Fiyaz, M CREAM , an English film, written and directed by Agneya Singh, produced by Agniputra Films and co starring Barry John, Tom Alter, Lushin Dubey, and Imaad Shah (winner Best Feature Film", Rhode Island International Film Festival), Dilliwali Zalim Girlfriend , written by Manu Rishi Chadda, directed by Dubai based Japinder Baweja (released in March 2015), and Aisa yeh Jahan written and directed by Biswajeet Bora (released July 2015) for which she was recently awarded the BEST ACTRESS Award at the 3rd Indian Cine International film festival.
When she returned to India, she started her struggle to get some roles in Bollywood, however, she was seen doing theatres and then got some films. Her debut in the world of acting in Bollywood started with a supporting actress role in the film called The President Is Coming in the year 2009. She then got some minor roles in different films including Aisha in 2010 which gave her some recognition in the industry.
However, her first film was Marigold with Salman Khan in the year 2007. She then was seen in the film called Turning 30 in the year 2011 wherein she did the character called Yamini Punjwani.She has been a film critic on television for Sony Pix for a weekly show called Chicks on Flicks for a total of 108 episodes, starred in advertisements for Olay, Blackberry, Airtel, Bluestone Jewellery & most recentlyMYNTRA She spent the summer of 2014 training at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York in the Chekhov Intensive workshop and trained at Adishakti in the Autumn of 2015 in Pondicherry, India.
She has recently finished shooting Mahesh Dattani's 30 days in September", a poignant story about child sexual abuse in which, she plays the lead, for Zee television , one of India's largest and most popular television networks.Ira Dubey then got the chance to work in the film called MCream in the year 2012 wherein she played the character called Jay.
She then got the other film opposite Palash Sen called Aisa Yeh Jahaan released in July 2015. It is a offbeat film showcasing the life of Bombay and the issues surrounding it along with a subtle message of environment prevention. Apart from the films, she also appears in different commercial ads particularly, which is a jewelry based shopping portal.
In 2016, in addition to playing Nora in A Doll's House", she has completed shooting for two feature films- Dharma & Red Chillies productions' upcoming project Dear Zindagi directed by Gauri Shinde & starring Alia Bhatt & Shah Rukh Khan & an independent feature film , Shikara , directed by Nikhil Allug, in which she plays the lead.In small screen Ira Dubey was seen hosting a couple of TV shows including Chicks on Flicks on the channel called Sony Pix.
In this show, she and her co-hose used to review the latest released Hollywood films. In the year 2012, she got the chance to co-host a show called Foodistan. She has a small role in the film called Dilliwali Zaalim Girlfriend.
