                                           Sania Mirza  born 15 November 1986) is an Indian professional tennis player who is currently ranked No. 1 in the women's doubles rankings. From 2003 until her retirement from singles in 2013, she was ranked by the Women's Tennis Association as India's No. 1 player, both in singles and doubles.

                                         Throughout her career, Mirza has established herself as the most successful female Indian tennis player ever and one of the highest-paid and high-profile athletes in the country. Sania Mirza is an Indian tennis star and one of the top doubles tennis players in the world. 



                                     She is the most successful Indian female tennis player. Mirza burst into the scene as a prodigiously talented teenage tennis star and won several of tournaments in the Indian local circuit before breaking into the big time when she won the Girls’ Doubles title at Wimbledon. Mirza won a number of singles championships in the local circuit and also fared credibly in the Grand Slam singles circuit but she could not make the sort of progress that she would have liked.



                                  A wrist injury was also one of the reasons why her career went through a rough phase but post that injury she started concentrating on doubles and mixed doubles tournaments more than the singles events which led to her success in the Grand Slam tournaments. She had a very fruitful partnership with fellow Indian tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi in the mixed doubles and with Swiss great Martina Hingis at a later date.



                                 She is regarded as one of the finest doubles players in the world and without doubts one of the finest tennis players to have ever represented India. imbledon girl's doubles title was the way to fame for this tennis sensation from Hyderabad. Sania became the Second Indian girl after Nirupama vaidyanathan to play in the Grand Slam tournament at the Australian open.


                                       It was after 51 years that an Indian girl figured in the final of a Grand Slam, the last being Rita Dabur, who had finished runner-up in the singles event in 1952.The tide of her Australian Open exploits had hardly died down when Sania again pole vaulted back to fame by winning the WTA tennis title in her hometown of Hyderabad. Hold back, the recent Dubai open gave her the title of the giant killer when she downed the reigning US Open champion, Svetlana Kuznetsova.Born in Mumbai on November 15, 1986 to Imran and Nasima Mirza, Sania started playing tennis at the age of six.



                                      She started practicing under CK Bhupati, Mahesh Bhupati's father and first started playing tennis at the Nizam club in Hyderabad. She learnt the professional game at Sinnet Tennis Academy in Secunderabad before finally moving to Ace Tennis Academy in the USA.India's teen sensation, Sania Mirza was born in Mumbai on 15 November 1986. 



                                  Initially she was coached by her father Imran Mirza and C G Krishna Bhupathi (father of another famous Indian tennis star, Mahesh Bhupathi), she turned professional in 2003. She has entered the record books for being the highest ranked female tennis player ever from India, in singles as well as in doubles.
 



                                 The stupendous success of tennis duo Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis in 2015 has helped them attain the title of 2015 Womens Doubles World Champions. Conferred upon the two tennis stars by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), this title has brought the two women tennis players closer to each other. Quite contented with the award received from the ITF, Sania Mirza seeks to become an inspiration for all female tennis aspirants in India. 



                               Both, Sania and Martina have played together to win their last 22 matches, beginning from the US Open to wins recorded in Asia at Wuhan, Guangzhou, Beijing and finally the WTA Finals.Sania Mirza is an Indian tennis player, well known for her powerful forehand ground strokes. In her career, Mirza has won over Svetlana Kuznetsova, Vera Zvonareva, Marion Bartoli, Martina Hingis, Dinara Safina and Victoria Azarenka. She has also won a total of 14 medals at Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games and the Afro-Asian Games. In 2015, she was awarded a Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. 


                             She was named in Time magazine's 2016 list of the 100 most influential people in the world.Sania Mirza got married to Pakistani Cricketer Shoaib Malik on 12 April 2010. It was grand celebration and also the step towards development of good relations between the two nations Indian and Pakistan.
