Nayanthara (born Diana Mariam Kurian, 18 November 1984) is an Indian film actress who predominantly appears in Tamil films along with few Malayalam and Telugu films. She is also the recipient of numerous awards.
Nayantara is an Indian film actress, who is best known in South Indian films. She made her acting debut with 2003 Malayalam film Manassinakkare and later in Telugu with Lakshmi. She then acted in several films like Tulasi, Dubai Seenu, Greeku Veerudu, Anaamika and more.
Her portrayal of Lord Sita in Sri Rama Rajyam has earned her Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress and Nandi Award for Best Actress. She was last seen in the movie Kaashmora opposite Karthi.
In 2014, she was listed in "List of 15 Most Desirable Women in 2014". She also acted in a supporting role in super hit malayalam filim Natturajavu before foraying into Tamil and Telugu cinema.
She made her debut in Tamil cinema with Ayya (2005) and Telugu with Lakshmi (2006). Both were successful. After which she was the female lead in numerous commercially successful Tamil and Telugu films like Chandramukhi (2005), Dubai Seenu (2007), Tulasi (2007), Billa (2007), Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008), Aadhavan (2009), Adhurs (2010), Simha (2010), Boss Engira Bhaskaran (2010), Sri Rama Rajyam (2011), Raja Rani (2013), Arrambam (2013), Thani Oruvan (2015), Maya (2015), Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015), Babu Bangaram (2016) and Iru Mugan (2016), making her the highest paid actress in South Indian cinema.On 7 August 2011, Nayantara has converted to Hinduism at the Arya Samaj Temple in Chennai.
She went through Shuddhi Karma, a procedure involving a Vedic purification and a Homam where Nayan chanted the hymns from Veda and Gayatri Mantra under the guidance of the priest. After this, a Certificate of Conversion to Hinduism was issued to her. From that time her stage name Nayantara has became her official name, which means beautiful eyes.
Nayanthara was born in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, to Malayali Orthodox Christian parents Kurian Kodiyattu and Omana Kurian who hail from an ancestral family Kodiyatt in Tiruvalla, Kerala. Her brother, Leno, who is nine years elder to her, lives in Dubai.
As her father was an Indian Air Force official, she studied in various parts of India, mainly in North India. She did her schooling in Jamnagar, Gujarat and Delhi. In Tiruvalla, she studied at Balikamadom Girls Higher Secondary School and then attended Marthoma College for her bachelor's degree in English Literature.
Nayantara made her debut in Tamil movies in 2005 with movie Ayya. and she appeared first time in Telugu movies in 2006 in Lakshmi movie. She won so many awards in her acting career for her acting in films.
Till now ( 2016 ) she made 60 movies in her career. She is one the highest paid actress in Tollywood. The comedy horror film, in which she starred alongside Rajinikanth, became one of the most successful Tamil films in history, running for over 700 days in theatres, turning Nayantara eventually into one of the most-sought after actresses in Tamil.
Later that year her third Tamil film, A. R. Murugadoss Ghajini released, where she played a secondary female character, which again was a commercially highly successful venture. She then made her debut in Telugu, starring in the film Lakshmi, following which she performed in Boss, alongside Venkatesh and Nagarjuna, respectively. She regained her star billing in Kollywood acting opposite Ajith Kumar in the Vishnuvardhan-directed Billa.
